A couple of months ago we ran a special Women In Business cohort of our after-hours business course, the 5-9 Club.
We recently caught up with 5-9 attendee Bethan Trevett, the founder of Keep the Change & The Wonder Bar, to talk about her business, her 5-9 experience and what’s next.
Hey Beth! Tell us about your business!
Keep the Change will be a lounge bar/restaurant. We’d be serving tasty, locally sourced food, barista coffee, local beers in a cosy, relaxed space. Our social mission is to provide on-the-job hospitality training for those that are furthest from the labour market, particularly people coming out of prison or those experiencing homelessness.
What made you join the 5-9 Club?
Having set up a business with no support in the past, I wanted to see what it would be like to set one up whilst using all of the resources I now know about. I’d hear about the 5-9 Club as I was already a Welsh ICE member and I firmly believe that we can always learn something new from other people’s experiences.
Can you tell us about your 5-9 Club experience?
As the Women in Business cohort, it was really empowering to be with a group of women who wanted to set up businesses. We shared many experiences and were all at different levels of our business journey. The support from the 5-9 team and the Facebook group is priceless. The information you’re taught on the 5-9 club is so valuable – from marketing to legal structures. Although it might seem like a lot of information if you’re new to entrepreneurship, there’s option to watch recordings again and there’s always support from others in the community. I would 100% recommend the 5-9 club to anyone who is thinking about starting a business!!
What’s next for you and your business?
The next step is to register the business with Companies House and get the website up and running. We’re currently planning our first pop-up event for January to test the waters before diving into a full time venue!
